High Protein Fruit Greek Yogurt

Hi All!  I simply love all-natural foods!  Yogurt is a staple item in our household!  We buy four 32 oz sized containers of plain Greek yogurt weekly for our household!  It is the one item that goes by the quickestMy family loves it, especially for the high-protein factor!  I usually consume 1-cup of plain Greek yogurt in the morning and have 1-cup for dessert in the evening!

I have stopped buying yogurts with fruits already mixed into them, simply because there is too much sugar added to them and they just have such an artificial taste to them!  Additionally, there is much more protein in plain Greek yogurt!  So, I have started to make my own fruit yogurt using the plain Greek yogurt and my favorite fruits!  This is what I use:
  • High quality Greek yogurt brands are the best that has at least 20+ grams of protein per serving: Chobani or FageI usually buy Chobani in 32oz size from Sam's Club.
  • Use your favorite fruit.  For my daughter I use frozen blueberries - she loves them!  I use my hand blender (after I have thawed them a bit) to make into a chunky blueberry sauce, add a bit of agave nectar to sweeten a bit.  If you do not like agave nectar, use honey!
  • Blend together fruits & honey (or agave). Recommendation: 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup strawberries & 1tbsp honey (or agave)...depends on how sweet you would like it.
  •  I add a about 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt ...use however much you would like.
  • Suggestion: If you like honeydew melons, sweet grapes, bananas, etc, you can use that to add to the yogurt and will not have to add any additional sweeteners!  The melon, grapes or other fruit will have to be ripe for that extra sweetness!!
My daughter loves yogurt and I believe the best way to give to her is the least processed way!  She loves my fruit Greek yogurt!  She also enjoys holding helping me hold the hand blender while making it!!

Stay tuned...I will post my Greek yogurt dessert...that tastes like cheesecake!!

The best, high quality brands of agave nectar and honey!

If you are looking for a hand blender, this is the best for the least amount!!

Flax Seed Breaded Mozzarella Sticks

Flax Seed Breaded Mozzarella Sticks are some of the best appetizers I have made in a long time!!  I had some kids over the other day and they ate these up so quickly!

REMINDER:  I do not use exact recipes and just like to put things together based on how like things to taste and estimate the ingredients I use based on how many servings I will prepare.

I used my favorite ingredients and you can use yours to add or replace some of mine:
  • Fresh Mozzarella (shrink-wrapped packaged in deli: oblong size or ball)
  • Golden Milled (fine) Flax Seed
  • Garlic Powder
  • Herbal Seasoning or fresh chopped parsley
  • Egg Wash (I blended 1 whole egg & 3 egg whites)
  • Safflower Oil - for light frying (safflower oil is high in monounsaturated fat, so it is great for high heat and very healthy oil to use for cooking)
For a Dip: consider a can of chunky tomato soup!!

These are the steps I used to cook them:
  1. Blend eggs for egg wash in separate bowl large enough to dip mozzarlla sticks
  2. Cut mozzarella into finger sizes or french fry cuts
  3. Mix flax seed, herbs, garlic powder & a pinch of salt in separate bowl
  4. Heat oil on medium - I filled a very small saucepan/pot about a 1/4 of the way - enough to cook several pieces of mozzarella sticks
  5. Soak some mozzarella in egg wash
  6. Roll mozzarella in flax seed / herb mixture
  7. Once oil is hot enough, fry several mozzarella sticks for a couple minutes - turn over every minute
  8. It will cook fast and you do not want to overcook them!!
Here is a photo of the finish product:

ENJOY!!!

Freestyle Cooking Made Easy

Welcome to my blog!!  Here I will show you how simple & healthy freestyle cooking can be.  What is freestyle cooking??  It is using your senses to cook without the use of recipes and using the ingredients you enjoy most to make the simplest, healthiest yet very delectable creations!  I have never liked recipes, but I love to cook!  I enjoy cooking with fresh and all-natural ingredients.  Who says it has to be hard or even expensive?  Having a 3-year-old that keeps me busy makes me keep everything that I cook simple!

Unfortunately, if you are not a cook and is someone that needs to follow exact recipes to cook, freestyle cooking might not be for you.  I like to give pointers on what to cook and do not use recipes to cook because I just use my own discretion and how I like things flavored.  However, feel free to check out my blog for delicious things to make...you may get inspired to become a "freestyle cook"!

Let me tell you about freestyle cooking.  I cannot emphasize enough that it is so invigorating to cook with so many robust flavors that tantalize my taste-buds!  Ask anyone who knows my cooking style and they will tell you that I do not like to follow recipes!  My reason: recipes are created one way that may not appeal to my taste-buds.  I do like to "refer" to recipes just to get an idea of what is in a certain dish, then I "re-create it" based on how I like - minus the globs of butter, high sodium and saturated fat!  My husband and I always have the discussion about the mounds of butter that is used in gourmet cooking; we think of it as "cheating" or even to the point of "bribing".  It is no wonder America's obesity rate is on the rise!  I do admit, that I do cook with a tiny bit of butter every so often and a "tiny bit" means: 1-2 tsps. per dish.  I usually cook with what I have in the fridge; I am not always running to the store each time I cook a meal because I am lacking a certain ingredient.  Meal planning to a certain extent is necessary - for example: if you know that you are going to have chicken & fish for the week, buy the ingredients that you will know you will need for seasoning & accompanying with your dishes!  Use fresh vegetables & herbs to enhance the flavors and quantify your dishes!  Frankly, I think cooking should be simple because oftentimes, people that do not like to cook dislike it because it can get too complicated!  For me, freestyle cooking is about using the senses that God had so graciously blessed me with.  I love the fresh aromas of cooking, tasting my food and hearing the cool sounds that come with prepping & cooking the food - blending, chopping, sizzling, boiling and roasting, etc.  I keep it simple, so I am not in the kitchen for hours or even all day!  Freestyle cooking for me is also always the healthiest option!

I will always continue to defend that eating healthy is cheaper than eating out or buying pre-packaged (frozen foods).  My husband & I also think of it this way...eating healthy will save us from expensive medical bills in the future (for treating conditions like: heart disease, Diabetes, etc. and purchasing medications that goes with treating all of these conditions).  My advice: invest in your health now to save yourself from paying later!  I just think about the cost of a bag of chips now...close to $4 in some stores...with $4 to $5, you can buy a dozen eggs, some herbs, and a couple vegetables to make an amazing egg-white fritatta that can even last you for days!

REMINDER:  I do not use exact recipes and just like to put things together based on how like things to taste and estimate the ingredients I use based on how many servings I will prepare.
