I have stopped buying yogurts with fruits already mixed into them, simply because there is too much sugar added to them and they just have such an artificial taste to them! Additionally, there is much more protein in plain Greek yogurt! So, I have started to make my own fruit yogurt using the plain Greek yogurt and my favorite fruits! This is what I use:
- High quality Greek yogurt brands are the best that has at least 20+ grams of protein per serving: Chobani or Fage. I usually buy Chobani in 32oz size from Sam's Club.
- Use your favorite fruit. For my daughter I use frozen blueberries - she loves them! I use my hand blender (after I have thawed them a bit) to make into a chunky blueberry sauce, add a bit of agave nectar to sweeten a bit. If you do not like agave nectar, use honey!
- Blend together fruits & honey (or agave). Recommendation: 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup strawberries & 1tbsp honey (or agave)...depends on how sweet you would like it.
- I add a about 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt ...use however much you would like.
- Suggestion: If you like honeydew melons, sweet grapes, bananas, etc, you can use that to add to the yogurt and will not have to add any additional sweeteners! The melon, grapes or other fruit will have to be ripe for that extra sweetness!!
